Anne Bakar Appointed to California Health Care Foundation’s Future of Medi-Cal Commission

Anne joins statewide health care leaders to develop a 10-year vision for Medi-Cal

More than one-third of Californians depend on Medi-Cal for essential health services, but with unprecedented federal cuts on the horizon, it is facing tremendous risk. No other safety net program in the state touches as many lives, and its contraction has devastating implications for millions of people.

We are therefore honored that Anne Bakar, President and CEO, has been invited to join The California Health Care Foundation’s Future of Medi-Cal Commission as it launches this week. The Commission is spearheaded by Sandra Hernandez, President and CEO of the California Healthcare Foundation; Dr. Mark Ghaly, former secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency; and Ann O’Leary, former chief of staff to the Governor of California.

“I'm proud to elevate the voice of the behavioral health community as I work alongside fellow commissioners and the Boston Consulting Group team to consider bold approaches to how Medi-Cal can not only be sustained, but strengthened to fulfill its promise for the next generation of Californians,” says Anne.

Telecare Corporation has worked for six decades to serve individuals who face the most significant challenges: those with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, housing instability, and justice involvement. Over the past 60 years, we have learned that when people with complex needs receive comprehensive, person-centered care, recovery is possible — but that care depends on a highly functional Medicaid system. Without it, the suffering and negative social impacts of mental illness, such as homelessness, will only grow.

Given the stakes, it is the right time to come together to think differently about how we might stretch scarce resources and modernize our approach. Anne looks forward to collaborating with this distinguished group of health care leaders to fuel progress in the midst of this funding crisis.
