Expanding MI-SBIRT to
Strengthen SUTS Services

With more than 70% of Telecare clients dealing with co-occurring substance use issues, it is absolutely essential that we do everything possible to provide more integrated, whole-person care.

Over the last several years, we’ve been especially focused on strengthening and expanding our substance use services

This month, we are pleased to share an important step forward in this effort.

We are expanding the use of Motivational Interviewing (MI) paired with Screening/Brief Intervention and Referral Treatment (SBIRT) broadly across our organization — training more than 600 staff members to use these evidence-based practices.

Motivational Interviewing combined with SBIRT is a short-term intervention that can kick start a longer-term recovery effort. We believe it’s a powerful way to build trust and connection, reduce risk and harm, and ultimately, awaken motivation for positive change.

We are so grateful to be able to do this work — and so thankful to have a team of staff across our organization that are devoted to making things better.

We hope you, too, have many things to be thankful for this holiday season.

Until next month, we wish you all the best,
Faith Richie, SVP of Development, Telecare

MI-SBIRT Expanding at Telecare

We are pleased to announce that MI-SBIRT will be implemented broadly across Telecare in January 2019.

MI-SBIRT combines two evidence-based practices: Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).

Some Highlights:

  • Telecare is training more than 600 staff on MI-SBIRT.

  • We’re designing strategies to collect outcome measures using the DAST and AUDIT tools.

  • And, we’re developing a training support structure to ensure consistent EBP implementation over time.
