help, they can come to the Mental Health Urgent Care Center at Long Beach (MHUCC). As a consumer-focused program, its goals are to provide immediate relief to people in distress and to help them maintain stability in their lives. The program is designed to help people avoid involuntary hospitalization, psych ER visits,
Operated by Telecare Corporation, under contract with the
Los Angeles Department of Mental Health, the MHUCC is a family and provider-friendly program. It is not an emergency room or private hospital.
Just the Basics
Clients: We serve more than 3000 clients annually
Population Served: Adults ages 18-59 with serious mental illness
Funded by: Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
This program follows Telecare’s Recovery-Centered Clinical System (RCCS), an innovative recovery framework that incorporates the latest research and evidence-based practices. RCCS emphasizes doing no harm and supporting and enlivening recovery. The recovery model incorporates such approaches as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), harm reduction, and other consumer-centered therapeutic interventions.
Services and Supports
Services include, but are not limited to:
- Access to psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other clinical staff
- A safe, respectful environment for people in distress
- Medication evaluation and services available
- Nourishment available
- Appropriate referrals to other community resources
- Follow up visits or contacts when appropriate
The Mental Health Urgent Care Center at Long Beach is not a hospital. It is a voluntary program.
- Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Receptionist on-site: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- Resident of Long Beach, California or surrounding areas
- Persons having a mental health crisis, including substance abuse problems that complicate their mental health issues
- Must be age 18 or older
We do not admit individuals who are having a medical emergency or are a danger to themselves or others. These individuals are better served in a hospital emergency department.
