About Telecare El Dorado County PHF

The Telecare El Dorado County Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF) is a 16-bed hospital providing acute psychiatric treatment to individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness. We provide a structured, secure environment in a locked setting for people experiencing a high level of distress with the goal of reducing and stabilizing their symptoms as they work toward recovery. Our acute inpatient services are tailored to the needs of the individual and designed to rapidly stabilize acute symptoms and return the individual to the community.

Population Served: Adults, ages 18 and older, who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness

Recovery Model

This program follows Telecare’s Recovery-Centered Clinical System (RCCS), an innovative recovery framework that incorporates the latest research and evidence-based practices. RCCS emphasizes doing no harm and supporting and enlivening recovery. The recovery model incorporates such approaches as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), harm reduction, and other consumer-centered therapeutic interventions.

Services and Supports

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Outreach and engagement
  • Comprehensive evaluation and risk assessment ƒ 
  • Collaborative treatment planning with a recovery focus ƒ 
  • Coordination of services with overall patient health care needs ƒ 
  • Crisis planning ƒ 
  • Supportive counseling on group and individual basis ƒ 
  • Medication evaluation and management ƒ 
  • Discharge planning, including linkage with community services and support

Office Hours

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year

Referral Process

Referrals are coordinated through Cenpatico Intake Agencies.

Who Is Served

All individuals will have a medical screening performed prior to admission to the PHF to determine if they are medically stable to be admitted. Individuals must be able to take medications and fluids orally, walk without assistance, and have a resting pulse below 100/minute.

The following guidelines warrant an evaluation by emergency department personnel for clearance:

  • Suspected or reported overdose
  • Adults 18 and older
  • Chest pain or difficulty breathing
  • Exhibiting signs of drug or alcohol impairment

Telecare El Dorado County PHF also provides involuntary services for individuals who require that level of support. Individuals who are at imminent risk of harm to self or others may be placed on an involuntary or “special care status.” This is done to ensure their safety as well as the safety of others.

Per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines, staff members cannot release any client information without a signed authorization.
