60th Anniversary Spotlight: Transforming Lives (Gloria)
/Celebrating The People We Serve
As we celebrate Telecare’s 60th year, we want to spotlight some of the things that make Telecare special. The most important people at Telecare are those we serve, who are our reason for existence. From them, we learn about resilience, recovery, hope, joy, and the power within us all to follow our dreams and create the lives we want to live.
Today’s Spotlight: Gloria
“The way I look at it, I was in a hurricane— everything was going crazy. It was just me and God, working everything out for me. Now I see myself and I am so grateful because I am one of the few that got rescued." - Gloria
Today, we want to highlight Gloria’s partnership with Tesoro ACT.
Gloria faced significant hardships growing up, including homelessness, loss of contact with her children, and a lack of support. After experiencing abuse and losing her closest family members to jail, she found herself alone and struggling.
Things began to change when Gloria was finally offered the help she needed. “I knew I needed help, but I didn’t know where to get it. And it had to be the judge, but he gave me the help I needed.” Through Telecare’s support, she secured safe housing, found community, and began to heal. Now, Gloria is 18 months sober, has tokens celebrating her recovery, and feels proud to make her kids proud too. “My kids are so proud of me. I am so excited that I could do this—of course, with the help of the program.”
With the support she received, Gloria was able to rebuild her life and regain her independence. The stability and care she now has have made all the difference. She credits Telecare and the programs that helped her find safety, sobriety, and self-worth. “I live comfortable, I’m safe. And before I used to be like, ‘Oh, I’m alone in this world.’ I’m not alone because I’ve got Telecare.”
Programs like Project Homekey, No Place Like Home, and the Mental Health Services Act aren’t just about housing. They are about second chances and creating space for people like Gloria to heal, grow, and rediscover who they’re meant to be.
