Supporting Second Chances: Telecare at H.I.R.E. Event

Telecare's Orange County programs were represented in the impactful H.I.R.E. (Hub for Integration, Reentry & Employment) 2nd Annual Reentry Resource Fair held at Honda Center on May 10. H.I.R.E. empowers individuals previously incarcerated or impacted by the system, fostering their growth and social integration through employment opportunities, mentorship, and community-building initiatives. Telecare showcased its commitment by setting up a vendor table and offering valuable resources such as brochures and flyers about its Orange County programs and employment options. Attendees enjoyed delightful treats like candy, Telecare branded pens, and Mental Health Awareness Month stickers.

Lori Fischer, Peer Recovery Coach, and Lei Portugal Calloway, Peer Team Lead from Telecare's Orange County AOT program in Santa Ana, California, led the vendor table. Their active involvement at the fair holds significant meaning for both Lori and Lei, who proudly shared their personal experiences of benefiting from the support that encourages "2nd Chances" for individuals to reintegrate as productive mental health community members.

The dedication demonstrated by Lori and Lei in providing meaningful support to their members, openly sharing their lived experiences, educating their co-workers, and advocating for the community exemplifies their unwavering belief in the power of peer support. Their presence at the event left a lasting impact, fostering connections and spreading awareness of the transformative potential of reentry programs.

We sincerely appreciate Lori and Lei's exceptional contribution to this important fair. Their vulnerability and passion have undoubtedly inspired and uplifted those they interacted with, amplifying the message of hope and resilience. Together, we can create a society that embraces second chances and nurtures the growth and well-being of all its members.
