NatCon 2022: Morton Bakar Center’s Clinical Director Presents “Recovery at Any Age”

In early April, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing hosted its annual conference, NatCon, in the Washington D.C. area. Telecare is a proud member of the National Council and regularly sends staff to the annual conference to learn about emerging trends and best practices as it relates to integrated healthcare, leadership, and clinical interventions.

This year, we are thrilled that Morton Bakar Center’s (MBC) Clinical Director, Julia Egan, Psy.D., was selected as one of the presenters. In addition to Julia, presenters included Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D., National Council’s President and CEO, Chuck Ingoglia, MSW, and hundreds of other leaders in mental health that hosted workshops throughout the three-day event.

Julia’s presentation, Recovery at Any Age: Providing Treatment for Older Adults with Complex Medical and Psychiatric Needs, was an interactive, engaging workshop that gave attendees the opportunity to participate in experiential exercises, case examples, and small group activities. Check out her presentation linked below to see how our recovery philosophy supports care for older adults and why this matters for the people we serve and their families.

Recovery at Any Age: Providing Treatment for Older Adults with Complex Medical and Psychiatric Needs

Presentation Excerpt:

Few providers have experience treating older adults with lifelong mental health struggles. Developing a culture of support embracing the whole person is especially important for recovery in older adults with mental health conditions. Providing appropriate support for this population involves increasing provider competency in issues specific to aging and enhancing skills to navigate the complex systems of care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify at least three common medical conditions older adults experience and describe the associated symptoms.

  • Participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of creating a recovery environment for older adults with mental health conditions

  • Describe four areas of need for older adults with complex medical and psychiatric conditions.
