Telecare High Desert Crisis Walk In Center (CWIC) provides treatment and support to adults and adolescents living in San Bernardino County.
Who is served?
The program serves adults and adolescents who are in distress and have mental health needs that cannot wait. It helps people to manage these issues in a safe environment. The program exists to help people regain stability and return home, while avoiding unnecessary emergency psychiatric services or law enforcement contacts.
What is distress?
It can be caused by any number of things: depression, anger, loss, stress at work, personal/family crisis, difficulty managing medications or resulting from symptoms of mental illness, etc. In many cases, a person experiencing distress can feel highly scared, anxious, upset, grief-stricken, or agitated.
What type of services are provided?
As a voluntary crisis support program, CWIC offers a safe, respectful environment, where people in crisis can receive mental health services 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. However, people can leave any time they choose.
Services include:
- Rapid access to psychiatrists, nurses and licensed clinical staff. Mental health services are available at all times
- Intensive assessment and medication evaluation
- Problem resolution assistance
- Supportive counseling
- Appropriate linkage with community supports and services to assist people in addressing their needs
- Follow-up visits and/or contacts
Other services, if needed:
- Food
- Transportation
- A place to sleep (People may stay at the Urgent Care Center for up to 23 hours and 59 minutes)
- Assistance in deciding if a person should come to the Urgent Care Center or go to the local ER
Referrals & Contact Information:
The CWIC takes walk-in clients and referrals from other providers. The program is open 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.
Costs:
Costs vary based on the type of insurance and co-pays that an individual has. If a person has no insurance, there are ways that the costs are subsidized to make services as affordable as possible.
Financial Support:
CWIC is County-funded and is operated by Telecare Corporation under contract with San Bernardino County.
