Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about Telecare:

1. How did Telecare get its name?

Good question. Telecare is an unusual name for a mental health company. Most people think we provide health care services primarily over the phone. We don't. Telecare is actually a provider of a wide range of mental health services. So how did we get our name? When Telecare started in 1965, our company name was T.L.Care. When we filed the incorporation papers, our name was accidentally misread and the periods were mistaken for e's. This little oversight turned T.L.Care into Telecare.

At the time, we we only had one program: Gladman Memorial Hospital, the first freestanding psychiatric facility in the Bay Area. Everyone knew us as Gladman. However, as we grew and added more programs, we found we needed to use the Telecare corporate name. It stuck. We've kept the name over the years because of the strong relationships and reputation we've built with our clients, families and customers. What do you think? Should Telecare change its name? Send your comments to Shea McGuier, Director of Communications at smcguier@telecarecorp.com.

2. Does Telecare accept interns?

We do! We have worked with a wide range of interns. Some have a mental health focus. Others can be as creative as culinary students. If you have skills you'd like to test on the job, or would like to expand your education with an internship, contact one of Telecare's regional recruiters. You can find their contact information on the Contact Us page.
