Criminal Justice Realignment 2011

In January of 2011, California Governor Brown released his proposed 2011-12 State budget, including plans for addressing a then-projected deficit of $25.4 billion. The proposal included a $5.9 billion transfer of programs (“Realignment”) from the State to the Counties. Realignment includes structural changes in the State’s criminal justice system, with counties assuming supervision of specific categories of low-level offenders and parolees.
