ALAMEDA, Calif., March 31, 2008 -- Telecare Corporation recently opened CARES Crisis Residential North (CCRN), a 12-bed crisis and recovery emergency service center located at 212 Carmen Lane in Santa Maria. A component of Santa Barbara County's CARES Crisis Intervention Center, CCRN will serve adults aged 18 - 59 on a 24 hour a day, 365 days per year basis.
CCRN is funded through Santa Barbara County and the Mental Health Services Act and provides voluntary, short-term services, typically lasting 5-10 days. CCRN provides non-hospital detox services and employs peer counselors as well as licensed professionals.
"Through CCRN we look forward to providing a safe environment for individuals who are experiencing a mental health or drug/alcohol related crisis and need additional support to stabilize symptoms and return to their previous level of functioning," said David Bathory, Telecare's Director of Start Up. "As with all our programs, services are delivered in a culturally competent manner, which we believe is essential for assisting people gain the skills needed to manage their conditions more effectively."
Currently, walk-in clients and self-referrals are not accepted at CCRN. During normal operating hours, all referrals will be made by Santa Barbara County CARES Crisis Intervention Program and by the CARES North Mobile Crisis Team.
"CCRN helps people cope with crisis while avoiding unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization in acute or state hospital settings and connects clients with follow-up care and other community supports that will enable them to fully participate in necessary follow up treatment," said Bathory.
Telecare's recovery-focused approach for people served in crisis settings involves creating an environment where people can examine their choices, reduce harm, develop improved coping skills, and begin to connect with their hopes and dreams so that they may move forward in their recovery journeys. Once individuals are transferred to the crisis residential component, they will receive a wide range of services and supports, including:
* Crisis intervention, including emotional support and de-escalation of crisis situations;
* Brief treatment, including individual, family and group counseling and rehabilitation,
* Temporary respite from a living situation that was contributing to the crisis,
* Social model detox (decreasing drug and alcohol acuity),
* Assistance with self-administration of medications, as well as medication management and support services,
* Education about mental disorders, co-occurring substance abuse, conditions, and community resources,
* Case management, linkage and referral including assistance with obtaining entitlements, community housing, community treatment resources, and referral to appropriate medical services,
* Discharge planning
In addition to CCRN, Telecare currently operates three programs in Santa Barbara County including: Santa Maria Support Services, Santa Barbara HOMHES, and McMillan Ranch.
