New Program Sonoma ACT Celebrates With Open House

May 02, 2007

On March 29th, 2007, Telecare celebrated the opening of our first ACT program in Sonoma County. Located at 327 and 333 College Avenue in Santa Rosa, Sonoma ACT is already having great success.

Client Matt J. shared these thoughts:

"Well, I suppose it's not time to be a radical firebrand. After all, we're all new here and we've gotten a break from the old routine. Some of us have been in and out of those dreary hallways at Oakcrest and other such places so many times that we've actually lost count of our stays there. At least, I have.

At Telecare, I have heard a lot about fulfilling our dreams. That's a wonderful idea, inspiring. But one of the first things I heard was that a big goal of Telecare is simply to keep us out of the hospital. Now, that interested me. The fear of going back is one of the most powerful destroyers of hope. No dream can be won without some confidence of a continued freedom. I have got to say at this point, that Telecare has proven itself to me to be capable of restoring this hope without which, no dream of a fulfilling life can be realized.

In the last few months, I teetered on the edge of totally losing it. My sanity was on shaky ground. On a few occasions, I would have expected to have ended up right back up on the hilltop, perhaps to have gone for a long ride back to (a locked setting). At this point, I can only thank God that Telecare was there. Several times they have intervened when things got tough. I've been able to count on them being here. The last two placements I had just didn't work out for me. But when things went from bad to worse, Telecare bailed me out. I went from the frying pan to the fire, but was soon helped into a new situation that I believe is more than livable.

And this is where my feelings of hope for a better future are beginning to find root. These feelings don't just come from a new situation. These feelings begin to rise in me as I come to have confidence that I can count on the people at Telecare. They have been there when I needed them. They have tolerated my worst behavior and continue to work with me. That's special. Normally I would have been shipped out long since. Somehow they maintain a dedication to their work which brings hope to me and I believe must be bringing hope to every member.

I've thought of myself as a mental health client, and I've thought of myself as a psychiatric survivor, but to start thinking of myself as a member of Telecare, that's new. I am beginning to realize what that might mean and all I can say is, that it is a good thing."

Client Scooby S. also said, "Telecare has brought out potential in me that I didn't even know I had."
