The Region Six Recovery Center (opened in September 2005) and the Recovery Center at Sarpy (opened in June 2006) were developed as part of sweeping reform efforts in the State of Nebraska, and were specificially developed to:

  1. Transition individuals out of the Regional Centers, a high-cost, more restrictive institutional environment, and, divert individuals away from the Regional Centers by offering a secure inpatient facility in the local community
  2. Engage individuals in a self-directed, empowering recovery process that leads to greater hope, increased satisfaction and successful community living, while reducing the need for inappropriate inpatient hospitalization

Initial results have been promising

Innovative program structure

Both programs incorporate Telecare's Recovery-Centered Clinical System (RCCS) and are the first locked inpatient programs in the State of Nebraska to embrace such a model.

The RCCS focuses on:

Residents and staff comments:

"I would like to see more of these places, so more people could receive the wonderful help and living skills I acquired here. You guys went above and beyond the call of duty many times. You showed much care, concern and love with everyone who was lucky enough to be a client. I am grateful for having the chance to be here." -- Telecare Client

"Compared to the traditional treatment settings where individuals with mental illness are treated with medications and provided a structured environment, residents at the Recovery Center are active participants in their own treatment from day one, learning to make effective choices in their lives. The recovery philosophy allows staff to support residents in their journey of transitioning back into the community without dictating treatment or engaging in the power struggles encountered in traditional treatment settings. I believe our vision of 'supporting individuals in their choices to realize their hopes and dreams in a recovery environment that nurtures body, mind and spirit' truly exemplifies the recovery philosophy and empowers individuals with mental illness." -- Dr. Natalie Baker, Psychiatrist, Recovery Center at Sarpy
