San Diego REACH Opens Supportive Housing Program
February 01, 2003
Jon Walters is Case Manager for the Del Mar Apartments. On February 1, 2003, San Diego REACH (Reaching Out and Engaging to Achieve Consumer Health) expanded to provide on-site case management services for adults with special needs. REACH Supportive Housing Program, as the expansion is called, is located at two apartment complexes in San Diego.
The case managers will, in cooperation with the property manager and TACHS (The Association for Community Housing Solutions) social services coordinator, assist residents in maintaining their independence and help them with their goals.
This is the result of a growing partnership between TACHS and Telecare, which had its beginnings when the AB2034 bill was introduced. TACHS is a non-profit agency whose mission is to develop affordable housing for individuals with special needs, particularly those with mental illness.
Telecare contracted with TACHS last year to locate housing for members of the REACH program. Since that time, TACHS has closed escrow on another apartment complex that will be exclusively for AB2034 members of REACH.
