Telecare Hero: Peggy G., Placer PHF

March 20, 2006

I wanted everyone to be aware of the high regard in which I hold Peggy G., RN, as a patient advocate, nurse, and team leader.

She keeps the team moving in providing compassionate, quality nursing care, always striving to utilize creative and solid nursing practice.

She wants to grow in her professional life and does not shrug off appropriate criticism.

I have worked with her on problematic shifts with a very high acuity and have never witnessed her behaving as anything but a true professional. She consistently treats every single patient she encounters in a dignified and respectful manner.

Few nurses I have encountered go to the lengths Peggy does in keeping patients safe and out of seclusion or restraints. When, on occasion, nothing else works and she has exhausted all ideas and means, patients are safely and respectfully secluded or restrained and then moved back to the milieu as promptly as possible.

As hard and diligently as she works at the above levels, she never fails to see the additional needs of patients and address them. I have playfully told her she is our Quality Improvement Nurse.

I have worked with her on many occasions and I never fail to grow as a nurse and patient advocate every time I do.

My favorite thing about Peggy:

Her creativity in keeping patients out of seclusion. An example: a very psychotic patient was unable to focus or process and people wanted to seclude him. Peggy sat on the floor and played paper airplanes with him until the medication began to work.
