Girls Inc. Honors Anne Bakar

At an awards luncheon in April, Alameda County nonprofit organization, Girls Inc., honored Telecare President and CEO Anne Bakar as an inspiring example of a woman who lives the Girls Inc. misson.
Anne, the first annual Strong, Smart and Bold honoree, spoke about how she lives the values of being a strong, smart and bold woman. Over 200 community leaders attended the event, which raised over $37,000 to benefit the girls whom Girls Inc. works with.
CHANGES, an Oakland-based Telecare community program, recently hosted intern Monique Negron. Monique came from the Eureka program at Girls Inc. The Eureka program is aimed at giving young women exposure to positive role models and mentors, as well as encouraging them to explore and excel in the fields of science, math, or sports, where women are typically underrepresented. While at CHANGES, Monique (who is 15 years old) learned basic office skills such as answering phones, making copies, filing, and tracking and logging assessments.
Girls Inc. of Alameda County is a nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. Girls Inc. offers academic enrichment activities, skill-building programs, and counseling services to girls and their families.
